Can the magic of classic RPGS be recreated for current generation of gaming?

The PS2 era and current era of RPGs haven't been so epic as the RPGs of old. There hasn't been another game like FFVII in decades and they probably won't be anytime soon. I remembered when I was a teenager back in the late 1990s I used to go crazy over RPGs, especially JRPGs because American RPGs have never grasp the magic of the genre. But times have changed. American RPGs have caught up and evolve but they are not the same as the Japanese RPGs. The Japanese now how to illustrate grand emotions whether it is dire or epic no one done it better than the Japanese.

I never play a Persona game...because it has yet to release on a console I own or currently playing. That being said, I am happy the next installment is coming out for the PS3 and perhaps the 360 since I am in no mood to upgrade to the next generation of gaming consoles. However, I am optimistic that RPGs, especially from the Japanese side, will rekindle. The tech wasn't there then but it is here now; developers finally have consoles, especially a Japanese console like the Sony Playstation, that is has little not none programming hurdles like the PS3 did.

I hope developers focus more on the content than the tech of there game engine. I am logging for another Xenogears or a Xenogears Remake since that is still one of my most treasured RPGs.  Let's hope we have a fantastic era of games that are not shooters.

Next Gen...Am I excited?

I was excited. I fell in the hyped as everyone else but I was smart enough to control my impulse. I am not excited as I thought I was because there are no games to be honest. Nothing out now and nothing to be out later. I am waiting for all of the bugs to the be kinked out and hopefully model refreshes with at least a terabyte of storage because half of terabyte or 500 gigabyte of storage is not suffice especially with game installs amounting to almost 50 gigabyte per game, which is bloody ridiculous.

The programmers will find there footing; consoles will be better optimized and so will all the other tangible factors but I won't be the test dummy or beta tester. They had me almost a decade with the PS3 and Xbox360 and it won't happen again.

Bring me the next big thing and perhaps I will change my mind. So far I am pretty content with my current gen.

Guilty Gear Xrd Trailer 2

I never was a fan of SFIV art direction, still is not, and probably will never be. I was very active on Capcom's website, pleading them of why we want a high resolution version of 3rd strike as the direction for SFIV. But Capcom, scrapped the whole hand drawn 2d sprite in favor of 2.5 D....anyway, look at Naruto fighting games or look at this gorgeous game that is Guilty Gear:

Just like SFIV, it has the cinematic intros and outros and stylized camera angles/finisher cinematography without alienating or drastically changing the traditional presentation. It's probably not 2D hand drawn sprites but the tech used does give us the illusion and it retains the style. I am getting this game day one. I wish SFV could look like this.

Games on my play list before I make peace with my PS3

The PS3 and Xbox 360 era have been extremely disappointing compared to prior generations, especially the PSX and PS2 era of gaming. In all of my years of gaming, I never appreciated gaming beyond the concept of gaming, but the year of 1997 changed that for me.

Square-Enix now is not what it used to be then but Final Fantasy 7, for me, was the first game that made me cry, literally. Never before was I so emotionally involve in bringing revenge to the character that was killed by mentally corrupted but understood villain. Games then took my cues from games such as Final Fantasy 7, Xenogears, Halo, Chrono Trigger, and other notable classics. Those games have shaped gaming for many of us even the industry.

Sadly, the PS3 and Xbox 360 only showed us how corrupted and thoughtless the gaming developers and industry could be. With overpriced games; games being released half finished and charging us extra to play the complete versions; games being plagued with numerous of bugs; and the atrocious business model of DLC. Although it has gotten better the games haven't really. They probably were some notable games like Naughty Dog's Uncharted II that changed the medium but nothing truly revolutionary; just evolutionary.

I am excited for this new era. I think the industry, has evolved, especially console manufacturers like Sony. A company that has finally grown up through humility instead of cockiness. Sony's approach is focus on pleasing gamers instead of bringing new tech that will change other venues of the industry that isn't game related.

Anyway here is my list of games I need to play before I move on:

1. Last of us--I've read so many positive reviews and it seems that this is game that pushed the genre even further and even the industry as a whole. For the record, I am the type of consumer who likes to wait until all the hype is die down and then gauge the opinions then with the opinions now. That's why I am a fan of Giant Bomb's game of the end podcast edition.

2. Tomb Raider--I never really got into it. I play the prior entries or to be more accurate, try to play the prior entries but this one seems different.

3. GTAV--enough said...

4.Max Payne 3--always been a fan, so I owe it to myself to play this one before I completely move to another console.

5. Dishonnered--I am curious. I read great reviews and it seems like a game I will enjoy.

6. Borderlands 2--the first one was entertaining so I have to play this.

7.Dark Souls 2--although this isn't out yet I must play this before I move on.

Phew....that's about it in the gaming department and they maybe others but for now those are on my immediate list. I'll continue playing PS3 because there isn't a new fighter for consoles yet and the current fighters still have a strong online base so I don't think I will ever stop playing my PS3. Probably when sony cuts off it servers that will happen but for now that is it.

I miss blogging...

Ever attempt blogging a decent blog on a smart phone? Well it is a bloody pain in the ass especially for me and it is not as efficient as a decent machine or laptop but finally that nightmare has ended and now I am back in full force.

So what can my none existed fan base can expect? Nothing! I don't have a following and probably won't be having anytime soon until I put an extreme effort in attracting them to my page. Although, I may do that, it probably won't happen since this is my personal sanctuary; a digital venue where I can vent publicly in the digital realm and just may someone who is bored may come across this page and read the content I have posted on here.

I will continue to talk about random stuff about my life and my favorite hobbies such as gaming, reading, technology, women, and other stuff that maybe nonsense to you but essential to me. For instance, back then I was against getting the Xbox One but I may change my mind due to interest of Killer Instinct and the initial idea of having both systems to experience both worlds. PS4, though an amazing technical achievement for console game and my ideal console of choice, doesn't have a game that incentive me to get one. Xbox One, however, has and that game my friend is Killer Instinct since I am a massive fan of fighting games. It could at least hold my interest until the inevitable Street Fighter V comes hope, which I hope is way better than SFIV and go back to the roots of 3rd strike in terms of the concept of no short cuts and other bull crap mess to appeal to the mass casual gamers.

Outside of gaming, I think I may pay the theatre admission to see sequel to the Hobbit. I've been to almost all of the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy theatrically but didn't with the original Hobbit because I didn't care for it. The Hobbit isn't that bad and it is an epic of a film; I kind of regret not seeing initially on the big screen but whatever. The same mistake won't happen with this one. That's the only film I dying to see on the big screen because everything else is meh.

Anyway that's it for blogging for today....I see you guys with the next entry,  later.

It is a late wednesday night and I feel like blogging

I am going to try my best to blog on my mobile device with this insufficient digital keyboard on my galaxy s3...I rather a laptop or a pc but hey this is what I have to work with. I should be swyping instead of keyboarding with my thumbs because I think it is faster. Ugh...nah...I am going to  stop this abruptly because my thumbs are beginning to ache and I feel awkward doing this. Maybe with practice will get accustom but for now fuck this...anyway this is a test nonetheless since I am feeling out this app and how useful it could be in the future for quick post.

In retrospect, MS made a good move in drastically reversing their policies! And for that I may buy an xbone just to be connected to all my friends regardless of platform. By the end of the day I am a gamer and not foolish fan boy...I am a fan boy of great games and instead of being in envy I may purchase all 3 consoles, or at least 2 since nintendo games are really for me.

I hope and pray thr next generation of games are more story driven and innovative instead of rampant of shooters like we have now.

Microsoft peddle's back its DRM polices!

I am not surprised but I am happy it has happened because if it had continued and many moronic xbone followers complied like sheep then the history of gaming would have looked bleaker than how it is now.

I am not going to spend too much on this because other gaming sources like giantbomb and ign have amazing detailed articles on it already. I am just going to give my views about the situation and whether or not I will be getting one.

Initially, I wanted to own them both because I want to experience the exclusives I missed out this generation. I had an Xbox 360 and its predecessor, the Xbox, but I traded it in because it broke on me way too many times it caused me so much money due to scratched discs that had to be replaced. Additionally, Xbox360 was the first next gen console I had bought--Gears of War converted me over.

I am not a Sony loyalist or a Microsoft loyalits, I am gamer first and everything else later. Sony's ridiculous launch price tag for the PS3 helped geared me over...I was reluctant then because I wanted to stick with my Japanese console, Sony, to play Japanese games and the fact the then PS3 could have played all my older games, but so much has changed over the years since of its inception. The new PS3 units don't play older PS2 games anymore and Xbox360 still breaks but on a smaller scale.

I will buy the PS4 first because the premise or the business direction speaks volume with me, MS, however, doesn't or more or else I don't trust them. I will wait out to see what MS is going to do over the years and if they stick to their guns and cater to the consumers then I will be owning them both because I don't want to miss out on the exclusives for either system.

Has for my prolonged haitus, I am sorry...it is not intentional, is just that my life has not been situated yet and I have to get the gaming PC rig I desire. I will be as active with my blog and other sites as soon as I get everything up to speed...trust me it will happen but just be patient. My life isn't as simple as I want it to be. I have to think practical before I put myself even in more dire situation. I see you guys then, take care.
