Can the magic of classic RPGS be recreated for current generation of gaming?

The PS2 era and current era of RPGs haven't been so epic as the RPGs of old. There hasn't been another game like FFVII in decades and they probably won't be anytime soon. I remembered when I was a teenager back in the late 1990s I used to go crazy over RPGs, especially JRPGs because American RPGs have never grasp the magic of the genre. But times have changed. American RPGs have caught up and evolve but they are not the same as the Japanese RPGs. The Japanese now how to illustrate grand emotions whether it is dire or epic no one done it better than the Japanese.

I never play a Persona game...because it has yet to release on a console I own or currently playing. That being said, I am happy the next installment is coming out for the PS3 and perhaps the 360 since I am in no mood to upgrade to the next generation of gaming consoles. However, I am optimistic that RPGs, especially from the Japanese side, will rekindle. The tech wasn't there then but it is here now; developers finally have consoles, especially a Japanese console like the Sony Playstation, that is has little not none programming hurdles like the PS3 did.

I hope developers focus more on the content than the tech of there game engine. I am logging for another Xenogears or a Xenogears Remake since that is still one of my most treasured RPGs.  Let's hope we have a fantastic era of games that are not shooters.
