Dragon Ball Super Episode 48 review "NO SPOILERS"

Bravo to the animation team for getting the animation up a notch! So far the Trunk's story arc has not disappoint, yet.  The 48th episode -- HOPE!! Again - Trunks Wakes Up in the Present -- is currently available in an unsubtitled format since the English subtitled version is not as yet.

The episode started off with a bang,  despite having no clue of the dialogue exchanges between each character mean since my Japanese is a little sloppy, but visually I felt Trunks extreme contempt for Black Goku since he was the one responsible for murdering his beloved ones -- his mother, Bulma, and his presumed girlfriend, Mai -- and putting the remaining planet's population in extinction. The fight between Future Trunks and Black was explosive with minimal dialogue exchanges and yes Trunks did turn into Super Saiyan with his fight against Black Goku. I read multiple comments about fans' concerns as to why Trunks did not transform but rest assured he did transform and the fight between them two was viscerally intense and entertaining.

Without going too much into spoiler territory, trunks indeed escaped the wrath of Black -- I am going to call him Black Goku  Black for now on.  Initially, I thought Black was a cheaply designed character and why the creators could not have been a little more creative but I am loving this character's design a lot.

Despite the series having a rough start since its initiation, Dragon Ball Super has better spacing than Dragon Ball Z. Fights are not drawn-out and there is a little more character development and conciseness in non-filler episodes, even the fillers are concise as well.

Since this is the second episode of the Trunk's story arc, there is still a lot of unanswered questions. We still do not know the origins of Black's character and where that "Goku" came from because Goku in Future Trunk's timeline has died ages ago. And even though the events of that timeline have been resolved all of the Z warriors were dead. Trunks and Bulma were only the remaining survivors.

Obviously there are quite a few plot holes and the creator, Akira Toriyama is notorious known of forgetting his own story material. Shit I can vividly recall DBS episode of Piccole eating food despite Namekins are known for drinking water as they main nutritionment source. Nonetheless, I curious to see how they going to explain this, especially the backstory of Black and why he has such a strong hatred for the Sayian race.

Disclaimer, " I watched the episode a second time, the English Subtitled version, and I was not too far off of what was being said between characters so I guess my bootleg Japanese was not too shabby after all..:)"

Dragon Ball Super, thanks to the Future Trunks story arc, is shaping up to be on par with what is to be expected for a Dragon Ball anime. Although, the lack of blood and subdued violence still bothers me from time to time, the new arc has rekindled my optimism for the franchise.

DBZ is known for its frantic fighting and it introduced new and amazing characters, villains, expanded the lore -- Goku's origins, for example -- and taken the characters into new heights with omnipotent forms like the Super Saiyan Transformation.

I am still trying to gauge the relevance of this new DB franchise. I will not consider the new form, Super Saiyan God, as a vital inclusion to the series. Personally, I think the Super Saiyan concept is cooler and visually more appealing than the Super Saiyan God forms, even DBGT's Super Saiyan 4 was more creative in design. My issues aside, I sincerely want the series to do well.  Unlike DBZ and in a sense DBGT,  DBS has more character development. Main characters relationships with lesser characters are more fleshed out, for instance Vegeta's relationship with Bulma and his son; in DBS he has more depth as a character rather than his DBZ counterpart. And in that respects, I think Dragon Ball Super should touch more on character development so when characters do fight they would be more substance behind the fighting.

I am sorry for babbling...this was suppose to be an episode review and just that but at least my readers know my position on the series, this is a blog, my blog and I should have the liberty to express myself right.

Great episode nonetheless. It is a bloody shame I have to wait until next week to see what will happen next. Good job for the animation team in capturing the spirit of the DBZ fights. I see there is some minor improvements in the animation quality so good job in that department as well.

I will write up more reviews of animes I am currently watching in the future. I am still waiting for One Punch Man season 2 to be available. I have a backlog of other anime to watch such as Gundam orphans...actually I need to get back in watching that.
